How it works

How the 7-Day Medical Detox works

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you get in touch.

  1. Today

    A confidential call

An admissions specialist asks what has been going on and answers your questions. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, and you can stop at any point.

    What you get

A clear next step, with no obligation

  2. Usually same day

    Free benefits check

We contact your insurer directly for a benefits breakdown: which levels of care your plan covers, your deductible, and your likely out-of-pocket cost.

    What you get

Your cost explained before you commit

  3. Before admission

    A recommendation and a plan

Our clinical team recommends a level of care and you hear the expected length of stay and the cost after insurance. If another program is a better fit, we say so. Nothing is final until you say yes.

    What you get

    The details, before you decide

  4. Within 24 hours

    Admission and intake

Once insurance clears, you can start within 24 hours. Intake takes about two hours: paperwork, vitals, bloodwork and an assessment by medical staff.

    What you get

A detox plan that starts within hours of arrival

  5. About 7 days

    The 7-Day Medical Detox

Doctors and nurses watch over withdrawal 24/7, with comfort medication. Nobody is expected in groups while withdrawing. Then residential treatment continues with the same team.

    What you get

Residential treatment with the same team

Who this is for

This is not for you if

  • Your only coverage is Medicaid or Medicare (we'll point you to state-funded options)
  • You're not ready to stop drinking or using yet
  • You want a quick fix with no plan for what comes next
  • You're not willing to stay for the full medical detox (about 7 days)
  • You're in an emergency right now: call 911, or call or text 988

This is for you if

  • You've tried to quit on your own and withdrawal pulled you back
  • You want doctors and nurses with you through withdrawal, not another try at home
  • You want to start soon, within 24 hours
  • You want to keep it private. We don't contact your employer
  • You have a PPO plan, or want to find out what your plan covers

Common questions about detox at Tru Dallas

What happens on the first call?

An admissions specialist asks what has been going on and answers your questions. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. There is no cost to call, no obligation, and nothing you say commits you to anything.

How does the insurance check work?

The benefits check is free and carries no obligation. We accept most PPO insurance plans. We contact your insurer directly, then explain which levels of care your plan covers, including detox and residential treatment, and what you would likely pay. A verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment or coverage.

Will my employer find out?

Your treatment information is protected by HIPAA and by 42 CFR Part 2, the federal rule for substance use disorder records. We do not contact your employer. If you are on someone else's plan, the insurer may send them an explanation of benefits, so mention it on the call.

How long does detox take?

For most people, about 7 days. It depends on the substance and your health; the medical team decides.

Can I call for someone I love?

Yes. Parents and spouses often call before their loved one has agreed to go. We can talk you through the options and how to approach the conversation. An adult has to consent to their own treatment, and we cannot share anything about their care without their written permission.

What if I have Medicaid, Medicare or no insurance?

Tru Dallas does not accept Medicaid or Medicare. Call us anyway at (866) 971-7393: we can talk through self-pay arrangements and point you toward state-funded and low-cost programs in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
